Furniture, Interior work & more

This page shows an assortment of different furniture builds, panelling, interior fittings and everything in between including unusual and unique projects. Joinery is not just about doors and windows! I welcome any requests and am happy to look at and will consider all projects.

A concealed bookcase doorway

A project in my own property. A makeover of the original plain corner and doorway. The modern door was used as a stable core to build on and add mouldings and panelling resulting in a solid thick finish. The surrounding walls and top of door were levelled and clad to bring everything straight and plumb so as to accomodate the lines and match up of the wallpaper pattern. Andrew Martin Library paper was used and cut into sections to give a non repeating natural looking spread across the casing. Oak mouldings, shelf edgings, pillars and over panelling all made and fitted, coloured to give a warm aged appearance. The reverse of the door (in the kitchen) was clad in a traditional four panel design with mouldings. A good quality concealed self closing (soft close) mechanism was fitted to auto close and keep the door in place.

Two other doors in the house are built the same, four panel each side. These act as effective fire doors and also help keep the reception rooms warm as they auto close when moved through.

Wall Panelling

A couple of galleries below showing a couple of panelling projects. The first is all made from moisture resistant MDF including all the mouldings and the bookcase. Once sealed, primed, sanded back to smooth all surfaces, the final painted finish is very tidy. A cost effective and durable material for wall panelling.

This second project was in a large principle village house. All made in hardwood - I also made the large cabinet, see my Cabinetry page for more pictures.

Alcove storage cupboards & shelving

Three alcoves fitted out with storage shelving and doors to conceal. All made in oak and scribed in to fit the awkward spaces.

Display cases

I have made a number of display cases over the last few years, a few are shown below. All of my cases are designed to slot together with no screws or fixings.

Georgian style box pelmets

Carcasses made from good quality 18mm furniture grade birch plywood, hardwood mouldings and detailing, resin patera boss mouldings on the grey box. Both painted, gold areas painted with metallic bronze paint, gilded and aged down. Both fitted with good quality curtain track inside.

A Georgian style fire surround

Made in Tricoya extreme durable mdf with hardwood and resin mouldings. This was made to replace a pretty uninteresting fire surround in a period house bedroom.

Staggered step staircase

Made for a tight space in an extension, the space called for a steep incline staircase, too steep for a standard going case. The only way round this was to make a staggered step case. Made in softwood, later varnished.
